Igniting Curiosity and Innovation: The Annual STEAM Science Exhibition at H.I.S.

The annual STEAM Exhibition of Harcourts International School was held on the 12th of July 2023 at the school premises. This year’s theme was the Northern Lights - also known as the Aurora borealis.

The exhibition provides an invaluable opportunity for students to dive deeper into various fields including science, technology, engineering, art and math. The students of Primary 1 to Primary 5 took part in an art competition where their creative and artistic skills were brought to light while the students of Form 1 and Form National 1 upwards created models covering a vast range of topics from astrology to biology, forensics to physics and much more.

Our respected judges for the day, were Mrs. Kalpani Abhayasinghe - senior lecturer and Head, Department of Nursing and Midwifery, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University and an honorary research associate at the Institute for Research and Development, and Ms. Sameeha Jabir - Research Assistant at the Institute for Research and Development in Health and Social care, who took time off their busy schedules to grace us with their presence on this momentous occasion.

The main aim of the exhibition was to encourage pupils to explore the various subjects required in modern day society. In addition, it helps them build confidence within themselves and express their creativity, problem solving and collaboration skills through interactive project-based learning.

The event was indeed a success and was the fruit of hard work put in by the society teachers, society members and working committee members of the Science and Math Society and with the invaluable support of our Chairman, Mr.Ahmed Rheyas and our Principals, Madam Farzana Jabir and Madam Aysha Abdul Cader without whom this event would not be possible.

We hope to have many more exhibitions in the coming years, In sha Allah!
